viral crookie recipe - featured image

A viral crookie recipe featuring a flaky croissant stuffed with chocolate chip cookie dough and a gooey Nutella center. Quick, indulgent, and perfect for impressing guests or satisfying a sweet craving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large croissant
  • 1/4 cup prepared chocolate chip cookie dough
  • 2 tablespoons Nutella
  • Flaky sea salt (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Take your large croissant and carefully slice it in half horizontally, like youโ€™re making a sandwich. Donโ€™t cut all the way throughโ€”leave one edge attached so it opens like a book.
  3. Take your 1/4 cup of cookie dough and roll it into a ball. Use your thumb or the back of a small spoon to press a deep well into the center of the dough ball. Donโ€™t go all the way throughโ€”you want a little pocket.
  4. Spoon the 2 tablespoons of Nutella into that well you just created. Press it down gently so it sits inside the dough. Then, pinch the edges of the dough up and over the Nutella, sealing it completely. You should have a stuffed cookie dough ball now.
  5. Open your sliced croissant like a book. Place the stuffed cookie dough ball right in the center of the bottom half. Gently press it down so it spreads out a little. Close the top half of the croissant over the dough.
  6. Using your pastry brush, gently brush the top of the croissant with the melted butter.
  7. Place the assembled crookie on your prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. At the 10-minute mark, check on it. You want the top of the croissant to be deep golden brown and the cookie dough to be baked through but still soft.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, transfer it to a plate. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if youโ€™re using it.

Notes

For best results, use a bakery-style croissant with layers, not a soft pre-packaged one. Keep cookie dough cold until ready to use to prevent spreading. If the croissant browns too fast, tent with foil for the last 3-4 minutes. Let rest 2 minutes before serving to avoid burning your mouth on the hot Nutella.
